  • Fifteen minutes to a number. Serum on a card, card in the slot, press the blue button. The reader counts down 15 minutes, shows her progesterone in ng/mL and prints it.
  • Test as often as the rise demands. Every two or three days early in her season, then daily as the number climbs. Each test is one card, not one appointment.
  • Everything for the draw is in the box. A mini centrifuge to spin the serum out of the blood, a pipette with tips, syringes, tubes and a tourniquet come with the reader.
  • A record you can keep. Every result prints on a strip for her file, and the reader stores 5,000 readings so you can look back over past seasons.

Kiba Peak gives you the number. It is not a veterinary medical device, and your vet remains the right person for the breeding plan and for any bitch with a health concern.

The number that times the mating

The test your vet charges for, at home.

Progesterone is how serious breeders time a mating or an insemination: the number tells you when she has ovulated and when the eggs are ready. Kiba Peak reads it from a few drops of her blood on your own table, in 15 minutes, and prints it, so you can test every time the plan needs a number instead of booking a clinic visit for each draw.

How it is used

From a few drops of blood to a printed number

A calm Labrador lying on a towel while a gloved hand draws a small blood sample from her foreleg
Draw

A few drops from the foreleg

With the tourniquet on, draw a small sample from the vein on the front of her foreleg into a syringe and put it in a centrifuge tube. Many breeders learn the draw from their vet; it takes a minute once you know it.

A hand closing the lid of the small round centrifuge that comes with Kiba Peak, two capped tubes inside
Spin

Spin the serum out

Cap the tube, set it in the mini centrifuge opposite a balance tube and run it. The cells settle and a clear, straw-coloured serum sits on top.

Gloved hands pipetting a drop of pale serum into the round well of a white test card beside the Kiba Peak reader
Card

Eighty microlitres on the card

Draw 80 µL of the serum with the pipette and drop it into the round well of a fresh test card. Give it half a minute to run into the window, then slide the card into the slot, well first.

Read

Fifteen minutes, then a number

Choose Standard test or press the blue button. The reader times 15 minutes, shows her progesterone in ng/mL on the screen and prints the strip for her file.

With Kiba Season

The trend, then the number.

Kiba Season gives you one reading a day through her season and shows you the rise coming. Kiba Peak gives you the progesterone number in ng/mL that pins the day. Many breeders use the meter every morning and draw blood only when the trend says the rise has started.

  • Season every day, Peak when it counts
  • Fewer draws, better timing
  • One printed number per draw

Refills

One card, one test.

Each test uses one single-use card. The Starter kit comes with 50, the Breeder kit with 100, and refill packs of 50 or 100 are on their own page. Keep cards between 4 and 30 °C and use them before the date on the pack.

Questions

Good to know before you order.

Something we haven’t covered? Email info@kibaclub.com and a person replies within 24 hours.

What do the numbers mean?
As general guidance from canine breeding practice: below about 1 ng/mL she is not yet close; the LH surge, the start of the clock, is usually read at about 2 to 3 ng/mL; ovulation at about 4 to 8 ng/mL; and the eggs are ready two to three days after that, which is why many breeders aim their matings or inseminations at readings of about 10 to 20 ng/mL. Every bitch is a little different, so read the trend over days, not one number, and agree the plan with your vet.
How often should I test?
A common pattern is to start around day five to seven of her season and test every two or three days while the number is low, then daily once it passes about 2 ng/mL and starts to climb. Kiba Season, used every morning, tells you when the climb has begun, so you can save cards until then.
How do I take the blood sample?
From the cephalic vein on the front of her foreleg, with the tourniquet above the elbow and one of the syringes in the box. A few drops are enough. If you have not drawn blood before, ask your vet or a vet nurse to show you once; and check the rules where you live, because in some places only a vet or a licensed technician may draw blood from an animal.
Does it need a laboratory?
No. The mini centrifuge in the box spins the serum out of the sample, the pipette puts 80 µL of it on a card, and the reader reads the card. Nothing is sent away.
Is it as accurate as the clinic?
It is the same kind of test: an immunoassay card read by a machine, the method behind most in-clinic progesterone readers. We have not published a comparison against a reference laboratory. Run each card at room temperature, keep cards in date, and for a mating you cannot afford to miss, confirm the key reading with your vet. Questions before you order: info@kibaclub.com.
Does it work in the United States?
Yes. Every unit we ship to the United States comes with a US plug and runs on 110 to 120 V, the US mains voltage, so it plugs straight into a standard US wall socket. Outside the US, email info@kibaclub.com with your country before you order and we will confirm the plug and voltage of the unit we would ship to you.
How many tests are in a kit, and what about refills?
One card is one test. The Starter kit has 50 cards, the Breeder kit 100. Refill packs of 50 and 100 are on the Kiba Peak Test Cards page.
How should I store the cards?
Between 4 and 30 °C, sealed until you use them, and before the date on the pack. Each card is single use. If the serum has not run into the window within about 30 seconds, set that card aside and use a fresh one.
Does the room temperature matter?
The reader works from 5 to 40 °C, and the maker says readings are most consistent in a room between 22 and 30 °C. Let cards and serum come to room temperature before you test.
Will it work for my breed?
Yes. Progesterone timing is the same for every breed, from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane; only the size of the vein changes.
Does it work for horses or cattle?
Kiba Peak is sold for dog breeders and the ranges on this page are dog ranges. We do not offer it for mares or cows.
Can it tell me she is pregnant?
No. Progesterone stays high in every bitch after ovulation whether or not she is pregnant, so a reading cannot confirm a pregnancy. For that, ask your vet about a relaxin test or an ultrasound around four weeks after mating.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days and delivered by tracked courier, usually in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is free and you get a tracking number by email.
Can I return it?
Yes, unused and in its original packaging, within 30 days of delivery, for a refund. Opened packs of test cards cannot come back. Full terms are in the refund policy.
