Sperm counting chamber for dog and horse breeders
Kiba Count Sperm Counting Chamber
Turn one drop into a number: how many million sperm per mL, and how many of them are moving, read on the warm stage of Kiba Lens.
$349USD
Free tracked shipping, delivered in 5 to 10 business days.
A number, not a guess. Count the sperm heads in one row of 10 grid squares. The number you get is the count in millions per mL.
One undiluted drop. Nothing to mix or dilute. One drop goes on the chamber, the cover goes on top, and you can start counting.
The same depth every time. Three ruby spacers hold the cover 0.01 mm above the glass, so every count starts from the same thin layer.
Made for Kiba Lens. Slide-sized for the stage clip, and the heated stage keeps the chamber warm while you count.
Kiba Count tells you how many sperm there are and what share is moving. It is not a laboratory semen analysis, and your vet remains the right person for a full fertility check.
Secure checkout. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay.
Kiba Lens shows you that they are moving. Kiba Count tells you how many there are: one undiluted drop under a cover held at a fixed depth, a grid on the screen, and a row of ten squares to count.
How it is used
From one drop to a number
Chamber warming
Before
Warm the chamber
Set Kiba Lens to 38 °C and lay the chamber under the stage clip a few minutes before you collect, so the glass is warm when the sample goes on.
Sample
One drop in the centre
Put one small drop of the fresh, undiluted sample on the small circle in the middle of the three ruby spacers.
Cover
Lower the cover onto the rubies
Place the steel cover ring straight down onto the three ruby spacers. The drop spreads into a layer 0.01 mm deep under the grid.
Count
Count one row of ten
With the 10× lens, count the sperm heads in one row of 10 grid squares: that number is the count in millions per mL. Count the still ones in the same row to see what share is moving.
With Kiba Lens
From “are they moving?” to “how many?”
Kiba Lens shows you the sample is alive. With Kiba Count on its warm stage you also know how many million per mL you collected, so you can judge the sample, compare collections and plan the next one.

Glass, steel and a case.
The chamber is glass and the cover sits in a stainless-steel ring. Rinse them after each count, dry them and put them back in the foam of the aluminium case until the next collection.

How does it give me a count?
Each grid square is 0.1 × 0.1 mm and the cover sits 0.01 mm above the glass, so a row of 10 squares holds one millionth of a millilitre. The number of sperm heads you count in that row is therefore the count in millions per mL. Count two or three rows and take the average for a steadier number.
Do I need to dilute the sample?
No. Use one drop of the fresh sample as it is. The layer under the cover is so thin that the sperm lie in a single plane across the grid, where you can count them.
Can I see how many are moving?
Yes. In the same row of 10 squares, count all the heads, then count the ones that are not moving. The difference tells you what share is moving.
Does it work for horse semen?
Yes. A counting chamber counts whatever sample is on it, and the grid maths is the same for a stallion as for a dog. This page’s examples are written for dog breeders; horse breeders usually buy it with the microscope as the Horse bundle: Lens + Count.
Does it fit Kiba Lens?
It is slide-sized, so it lies on the stage under the clip, and the heated stage keeps it warm while you count. Count with the 10× lens, where the grid fits on the screen.
Can I use it with another microscope?
Yes, with any microscope that has a 10× objective and a flat stage. A heated stage, like the one on Kiba Lens, keeps the sample from cooling while you count.
How do I clean it?
Straight after each count, lift off the cover, rinse the chamber and the cover with clean water and dry them with a soft, lint-free cloth. Keep both in the foam of the case between uses, and never scrub the area between the ruby spacers.
Is it a laboratory semen analysis?
No. It gives you a count and the share that is moving. For the shape of the sperm and a full fertility check, see your vet.
What if it breaks in the post?
It travels in its aluminium case. If it arrives broken, email info@kibaclub.com a photo within a few days of delivery and we send a new one.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days and delivered by tracked courier, usually in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is free and you get a tracking number by email.
Can I return it?
Yes, unused and in its original packaging, within 30 days of delivery, for a refund. For hygiene reasons a chamber that has been used cannot come back. Full terms are in the refund policy.

Flash at night. The ring is already sitting on the disc. Three rubies through the window.
