  • See it yourself. Lay her on her side, put a little gel on the lower belly, and the 5.5-inch screen shows a live black-and-white picture of what is inside: the sacs, the puppies or kittens, and their heartbeats.
  • Made for small bellies. The 5 MHz micro-convex probe has a short curved face that sits on a small belly between the hind legs, from a toy breed or a cat to a large dog, with a fan-shaped view up to 24 cm deep.
  • Freeze and measure. Freeze the picture to measure a sac or a heartbeat on screen. The measurement menu includes distance, area, volume, heart rate and an expected due date.
  • Goes where she is. It runs on a rechargeable 2,200 mAh battery and packs into an aluminium carry case, so you scan in the whelping room, on her own blanket.

Kiba Echo shows you a live ultrasound picture. It is not a veterinary device and does not diagnose anything: your vet confirms the pregnancy, the count and the health of the litter. Scanning cows or mares? See Kiba Echo Cattle & Horse, with a rectal probe for trained hands.

Before the vet visit

The litter, on screen.

Most breeders pay for a pregnancy scan every litter and drive her to the clinic to get it. Kiba Echo is a handheld ultrasound with a small curved probe made for dogs and cats, so you can look for yourself at home, as often as you want, and take what you see to your vet.

How it is used

From charged to a frozen picture

Before

Charge and gel

Charge the battery, plug the probe into the socket on the side and have a bottle of water-based ultrasound gel ready. Gel is not in the box; pharmacies and farm stores sell it.

Ready

Lay her down

Let her lie on her side or back on a towel where she is calm. Part or clip the fur on the lower belly in front of the hind legs and put a little gel on the skin. For a dog, most breeders first look at about day 25 to 30 after mating.

Looking

Slide and look

Hold the probe flat on the gel and slide it slowly across the lower belly while you watch the screen. Sacs show as dark round shapes, with a brighter shape inside and, once it has started, a flicker of heartbeat.

After

Freeze and measure

Press freeze to hold the picture, then use the measurement menu for size, heart rate or the expected due date. Wipe the gel off her and off the probe afterwards.

Heart rate

See the heartbeat.

The B+M display shows the picture with a moving trace underneath, the way a heartbeat is read on an ultrasound. Freeze it and the heart-rate tool measures it on screen.

Who is it for?
Dog and cat breeders who want to see a pregnancy at home between vet visits. It is a tool for looking, not for diagnosis: your vet confirms the pregnancy and checks the dam.
When can I see a pregnancy?
In dogs most breeders first look at about day 25 to 30 after the first mating, when the sacs are clear and heartbeats can usually be seen; before about day 20 there may be nothing to see yet. In cats the sacs can usually be seen from about day 15 to 20 after mating and heartbeats a few days later. If you see nothing early, look again a week later or ask your vet.
Can I count the puppies or kittens?
You can count what you see, but any ultrasound count is an estimate: sacs overlap, and some are missed or counted twice, for vets too. For an exact count before the birth, vets take an X-ray after about day 55.
Will it work on a small dog or a cat?
Yes. That is why it comes with the micro-convex probe: its short curved face sits on a small belly between the hind legs. It works on large breeds too; the picture reaches up to 24 cm deep.
Is there one for cattle or horses?
Yes. Kiba Echo Cattle & Horse comes with a rectal linear probe for cows and mares instead of the micro-convex probe, and it is for trained hands only: rectal scanning carries a risk of injury. This Kiba Echo, with its small curved probe, is the one for dogs and cats.
Do I need to shave her?
Not always. Short coats often only need the fur parted and plenty of gel. Thick or long coats give a clearer picture if you clip a small patch on the lower belly.
Is gel included?
No. Use any water-based ultrasound gel, sold by pharmacies, farm stores and online. Oil or lotion will not work: the picture needs gel.
What does the screen show?
A live black-and-white ultrasound picture. Fluid looks black, so pregnancy sacs show as dark round shapes with the puppy or kitten as a brighter shape inside and, once it has started, a flicker of heartbeat. Reading it takes a little practice; looking at the same dam every few days is the quickest way to learn.
Can I save or share the pictures?
You can freeze any picture on the screen. The side of the scanner has a USB port and a TV-out port. We confirm by email exactly how pictures are saved to a USB stick on this model, so if you need that, ask us at info@kibaclub.com before you order.
Is it a veterinary device?
No. Kiba Echo shows you a picture; it does not diagnose anything and it does not replace your vet. If she is unwell, off her food, has a discharge, or you see something that worries you, call your vet.
Does it work in the United States?
Yes. It runs on its rechargeable battery and comes with a charger with a US plug.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days and delivered by tracked courier, usually in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is free and you get a tracking number by email.
What if it is not right for us?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will arrange a return for a refund. If it arrives damaged or develops a fault in the first year, we repair, replace or refund. Full terms are in the refund policy.
