  • See the cervix. A camera with its own light sits in the tip of the 35 cm stainless steel probe and shows the way in on the screen on top of the grip.
  • Long enough for a mare. The insemination rod is 70 cm. It goes in through the port at the back of the grip and runs through the probe inside a fresh 70 cm sheath, so it carries on past the end of the probe.
  • Warm before it goes in. Plug the heating cable into the grip and the steel probe warms up before use, so the first touch is not cold metal.
  • Clears its own lens. If the picture clouds over, a button on the gun blows air across the camera to clear it.

Kiba Scope Equine is a breeding tool for experienced hands. It is not a veterinary device and not a guarantee of a foal. If you have not inseminated a mare before, have your vet show you first. Breeding cattle instead? See Kiba Scope Cattle: the same gun, with the page written for cows.

Seeing what you are doing

The cervix, on screen.

A mare is usually bred by feel: a gloved hand finds the cervix and guides the pipette through with a finger. Kiba Scope Equine puts a camera and a light at the tip of a steel probe and a screen in your hand, so you can see the cervix and pass the insemination rod by the picture.

How it is used

From warm probe to done

Gloved hands wiping the stainless steel probe of Kiba Scope Equine with an alcohol swab on a barn workbench
Before

Charge, warm, clean

Charge the gun, plug in the heating cable to warm the probe and wipe the probe with an alcohol swab. Get the mare ready the way you normally would: in stocks, tail wrapped, the area washed and dried.

Loading

Load the straw

Thaw the straw the way your semen supplier tells you, load it into the 70 cm insemination rod and slide a fresh sheath over the rod.

Placing

Go by the screen

Pass the probe in gently while you watch the screen. If the picture clouds over, press the air button. When the cervix comes into view, feed the rod in through the port at the back of the grip and guide it through by the picture.

After

Deposit slowly

Press the end of the rod slowly to deposit the semen, then draw the rod and the probe out gently. Throw the sheath away and clean the probe before the next mare.

Warm before use

Not cold steel.

Plug the heating cable in the box into the grip and the stainless steel probe warms before it goes in. The maker builds the warming in to keep the mare settled when the probe goes in.

Barn to barn

Everything in one bag.

The gun, the 70 cm rod, 25 sheaths, the charger and the heating cable travel together in one padded bag, so the whole kit goes from the truck to the breeding shed in one hand.

Your vet remains the right choice for a mare with any health concern, for timing ovulation and for deep-horn insemination. Some breed registries do not accept foals bred by insemination, so check your registry’s rules first.

Questions

Good to know before you order.

Something we haven’t covered? Email info@kibaclub.com and a person replies within 24 hours.

Who is it for?
Breeders, stallion stations and repro professionals who already inseminate mares and want to see what they are doing. If you have not inseminated a mare before, have your vet show you first.
Is it long enough for a mare?
The steel probe with the camera is 35 cm and the gun is 45 cm overall. The insemination rod is 70 cm and runs through the probe inside a 70 cm sheath, so it carries on past the end of the probe. The maker builds this long version for horses and cattle; the original Kiba Scope is a different, shorter tool.
What semen does it take?
The 70 cm rod is made for straws of 0.25 or 0.5 ml, so frozen semen is the main use. The maker also shows the gun used with fresh semen from a syringe; if that is how you breed, email info@kibaclub.com before you order and we will confirm the fittings with the maker.
Does the probe warm up?
Yes. Plug the heating cable from the box into the grip and the steel probe warms. Give it a few minutes before you start.
Can I check the semen first?
Yes. Kiba Lens is a microscope with a heated stage and a screen on top: one drop on a warm slide shows you whether the sperm are alive and moving before you breed the mare.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the probe and its tip with an alcohol swab before and after every mare, and use a fresh sheath each time. The sheaths are single use.
Can I buy more sheaths?
Yes. Twenty-five come in the box and you use a fresh one for every mare. Spare 70 cm sheaths fit the same 70 cm rod and come in bags of 100 (US$49) or 300 (US$129).
Does it work in the United States?
Yes. This is the maker’s English export version and it comes with a charger with a US plug.
Can I use this for cattle?
Yes. The maker builds this gun for horses, cattle and camels, so it is the same unit we list for cows as Kiba Scope Cattle, with the page, steps and FAQ written for cattle breeding. If you breed cattle, order from that page. The original Kiba Scope is a shorter tool for dogs only.
Is insemination allowed for my breed?
Check your breed registry first. Many registries accept foals bred by insemination, but some do not: the Jockey Club, for one, registers only Thoroughbreds bred by live cover.
Will it guarantee a foal?
No. It lets you see and place the rod. Timing, semen quality and the mare’s own health decide the rest, and those are questions for your vet.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days and delivered by tracked courier, usually in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is free and you get a tracking number by email.
What if it is not right for us?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will arrange a return for a refund. If it arrives damaged or develops a fault in the first year, we repair, replace or refund. Full terms are in the refund policy.
