Lighted speculum for goats, sheep and dogs

Kiba Beam Lighted Speculum

A clear tube that lights itself from the inside, so you find the cervix by looking, not by feel, before the pipette or the Scope goes in.

  • See the cervix, not a shadow. A torch in your teeth lights the first few centimetres. The LED in the Kiba Beam handle shines down the length of the clear tube, so the walls and the cervix are lit from inside.
  • Clear all the way round. The tube is clear acrylic, so you see through its sides as well as down its bore, and the tip is bevelled and polished so it goes in smoothly.
  • Light on, light off. One button on the handle. Small batteries inside, no cable, no charger, nothing to plug in at the milking stand.
  • Tube off, tube washed. The tube pulls off the handle and washes in warm soapy water between animals. The handle is wiped and stays dry.

Kiba Beam is a breeding tool for experienced hands. It is not a veterinary device and does not guarantee a pregnancy. Anyone who has not used a speculum before should have their vet or an AI technician show them once.

Find it by looking

Light where the cervix is.

Transcervical AI in a doe or a ewe stands or falls on finding the cervix, and a speculum with a torch held in your other hand lights everything except the place you need. Kiba Beam lights the tube itself: press the button, look in, and the cervix is in front of you before the pipette or the Scope goes in.

How it is used

From the sink to the cervix

Gloved hands washing the clear Kiba Beam tube under a running tap, the LED handle standing dry on the sill
Before

Wash the tube

Pull the tube off the handle and wash it in warm water with a little dish soap, then rinse. Dry it with a lint-free cloth. The handle stays out of the water and is wiped.

Light

Handle on, button

Push the handle back into the open end of the tube and press the button. The whole tube lights up; a little lubricant on the outside of the tip and it is ready.

Look

In, and look

With her standing quietly, the doe or ewe on a milking stand, pass the tube in gently along the top wall until it stops, then look down the handle end. The lit walls and the cervix are in front of you.

Place

Pipette or Scope

Pass your insemination pipette down the lit tube to the cervix you can see. With Kiba Scope Goat you watch the rod go through on the screen instead.

Made to sit beside the Scope

Part of the goat kit.

Kiba Season Goat tells you the day, Kiba Beam shows you the cervix, Kiba Scope Goat puts the dose through it on a screen. Breeders who use a plain pipette use Kiba Beam on its own; breeders with the Scope use it to check a doe before the probe goes in.

  • For does and ewes
  • Also used on bitches
  • No plug, no charging

Between animals

Washed in a minute.

The tube is one piece of clear acrylic with nothing inside it, so it washes and dries between animals in a minute and you can see that it is clean. Keep the handle dry; the batteries live inside it.

  • Tube washes in soapy water
  • Handle wiped, kept dry
  • Small batteries, easy to change

Questions

Good to know before you order.

Something we haven’t covered? Email info@kibaclub.com and a person replies within 24 hours.

What is it for?
Seeing the cervix of a doe, a ewe or a bitch before artificial insemination, and for checking her for a discharge. The clear tube holds the canal open and the LED in the handle lights it from the inside.
Which animals?
Goats and sheep first: it is sized for does and ewes. Breeders also use it on medium and large dogs. The maker lists cattle too, but a cow is usually inseminated by rectal palpation without a speculum. If you are unsure it will fit your animal, email info@kibaclub.com before you order and we will confirm the tube size.
How is it powered?
Small batteries inside the handle, so there is no cable and no charging. The handle ships with its batteries fitted; the team confirms the battery type by email if you want spares on hand.
Can I use it with Kiba Scope Goat?
Yes. Many breeders look first with Kiba Beam to check the cervix and the canal, then pass the Kiba Scope Goat probe and watch the rod go through on the screen. Kiba Beam is also all the light you need with a plain insemination pipette.
Does it work for dogs?
Yes, for medium and large bitches, to see the vaginal walls and the cervix area and to pass a pipette for a vaginal insemination. For a transcervical insemination guided by camera, see Kiba Scope.
How do I clean it?
Pull the tube off the handle and wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and dry. Wipe the handle; do not put it under water. A fresh wash between animals.
I have never used a speculum. Can I learn?
Yes, but have your vet or an AI technician show you once first. Pass it gently along the top wall, never force it, and stop if she is uncomfortable.
Will it guarantee a pregnancy?
No. It helps you see where you are placing the dose. Timing, semen quality and handling and the health of the animal all matter too.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days and delivered by tracked courier, usually in 5 to 10 business days. Shipping is free and you get a tracking number by email.
What if it is not right for us?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will arrange a return for a refund. If it arrives damaged or develops a fault in the first year, we repair, replace or refund. Full terms are in the refund policy.
